The following statement is from Dr. Carl Mumpower, Republican candidate for Congress, 11th District:
There is simply no such thing as clean special interest money. It all comes with attachments, agendas, and obligations – such money is always an investment in buying a piece of America’s future. Under our present system for electing members of Congress, how one runs predetermines how one will serve. Regardless of the denials and hollow claims of autonomy, very few politicians, from either party, arrive in Washington with their dignity, independence, and principles intact. Special interest driven campaigns insure that power, party or popularity trump principle almost every time and insure paralysis and misguided priorities on Capitol Hill. I intend to reverse that formula.
I am committed to not accepting any PAC, union, party, or other special interest monies to help me buy a seat in Congress. I won the 11th District Republican primary with any eye on the common good and no attached obligations to the party power structure or any special interest. That win provides opportunity to challenge a system that purchases seats in Congress, press my party to return to its core principles, and to conduct a campaign that changes the formula for Congressional elections and service.
Going forward, we are going to fund our campaign one Lincoln at a time. Our goal is to reach out for to all concerned voters, regardless of party, who believe we need to take back America. We are asking for a $5 contribution toward that goal and a willingness to ask 3 friends to do the same. We are grateful for any contribution within legal limits, but $5 from enough people can be more powerful than a lot of money from those accustomed to buying America’s future.
I am going to win or lose standing up straight through our “Lincoln Campaign” – obligated only to the common good and holding fast to a committed set of principles. Together – we have the potential to change politics in America. As a candidate who is more interested in America’s future than my own, there is really no other reason to run.

The energy was high last night after the polls closed. Many Republicans (candidates and supporters) met at Magnolia’s in downtown Asheville to watch the election results. A few blocks away, Carl Mumpower, candidate for Congress, had a celebration at his campaign headquarters. It is clear that the energy and enthusiasm within the Republican Party is growing. With such a great slate of candidates, it will continue to grow and carry us to victory in November!
