We are excited to announce that Buncombe County will be well-represented at next week’s National Young Republicans Convention!

We will have THREE delegates from our thriving local YR club attending. YR Chair Christy Blake, immediate past Chair Michael Blackmon, and Member-At-Large Brian Umbarger will be our delegates.

YR Delegates

This is made possible in part by the generosity of Republicans in our community. Several of our Republican clubs contributed money to sponsor these young leaders. The Buncombe County Republican Party was able to cover the remainder due to all of those who have contributed $100 per family to the party. Thank you Victory Club members for helping us to keep our young people engaged and active. They are the future of this party.

Help us continue to support Republican activities. Join our Victory Club by visiting our website today.

We understand that a very generous donor also contributed a large sum to the NCGOP for the purpose of sponsoring young Republicans throughout the state for this national convention.

Dr. Timothy JohnsonCongratulations to our Chairman, Dr. Timothy F. Johnson, for his victory in the election for Vice Chair this weekend! Chairman Johnson will continue on in his role as our Chairman while serving as state Vice Chairman. Read the article in the Mountain Xpress.

For those of you who were not able to attend or watch the live webcast, Thunderpig has the nominating speeches for Tim Johnson posted on his blog.

Congratulations also to Tom Fetzer, our new state Chairman. Even though we endorsed another candidate, we fully support the decision of the convention delegates and look forward to working with Chairman Fetzer and all the leadership at the state level.

If anyone knows where to find the speeches for Tom Fetzer, please post a link in the comments.

Contrary to 11th District Chairman Steve Duncan’s statement to the media last night, Republicans who have been supporting Tim Johnson for NCGOP Vice Chair do NOT “feel like we were so deceived.”

Our Chairman was re-elected this year because he has been tremendously successful in growing the local party, pushing technology, and increasing diversity. It is because of this success that our executive committee voted overwhelmingly to endorse Johnson for NCGOP Vice Chairman.

We have all been well aware of Johnson’s past transgression for quite some time. He has addressed it thoroughly and through multiple communication channels. We understand that people make mistakes and we are able to forgive. It was 13 years ago. This is today.

Tim Johnson is the man we need TODAY to help move this party forward. Duncan is welcome to continue looking to the past but no one should make the mistake of thinking he speaks for today’s Republicans.
