Contrary to 11th District Chairman Steve Duncan’s statement to the media last night, Republicans who have been supporting Tim Johnson for NCGOP Vice Chair do NOT “feel like we were so deceived.”
Our Chairman was re-elected this year because he has been tremendously successful in growing the local party, pushing technology, and increasing diversity. It is because of this success that our executive committee voted overwhelmingly to endorse Johnson for NCGOP Vice Chairman.
We have all been well aware of Johnson’s past transgression for quite some time. He has addressed it thoroughly and through multiple communication channels. We understand that people make mistakes and we are able to forgive. It was 13 years ago. This is today.
Tim Johnson is the man we need TODAY to help move this party forward. Duncan is welcome to continue looking to the past but no one should make the mistake of thinking he speaks for today’s Republicans.

You know something is amiss when your being vilified by members in the party, not for your performance as Chairman but for something unassociated out of your past. Tim Johnson has been an exceptional Chairman and is supported in his efforts.
Amen. I wholeheartedly support the man I know today, just as I wholeheartedly condemn his mistakes of the past. There was no deception, there is nothing “sinister.” There is no “moral high ground” among human beings. Steve Duncan’s quavering voice and knitted eyebrows don’t speak for me.
It is understandable how Dr Johnson should feel shame over his past transgressions. However, he should have realized that his past would be divulged. Therefore, his fellow North Carolina GOP does have a reason to be upset.
Timothy Johnson pleaded guilty in 2006 to aggravated assault in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
The incident involved his wife, from whom he’s now divorced. Johnson was given a 18 month-suspended sentence, ordered to move to Toledo and undergo domestic violence counseling.
Although, Dr. Johnson’s domestic crime should have no bearing on his performance, the question that comes to my mind is Dr. Johnson’s present sincerity in regards to transparency in politics.
It was 1996. Not 2006.
I support Tim 100% based on the advancement of our own GOP County Party with Tim at the helm.
We are proud of what Tim has done this past year.
I look forward in standing with Tim in the days ahead.
