This year, we will hold our precinct meetings before our county convention in locations throughout the county on March 6, 13, and 20. You can find all of the details on the 2010 Precinct Meetings page of this website.

Whether you are a frustrated Republican, disgruntled Democrat, or an Independent who is fed up with both parties, we encourage you to join us. Only those who have registered Republican by January 31, 2010 will be voting delegates, but you can still get involved in our party if you register as a Republican at your precinct meeting.

Precinct officers and delegates to the convention will be proposed at these meetings. Other discussion and training will occur as well.

Visit www.buncombegop.org/precinct-meetings for a detailed list of precinct meetings.

Our County Convention will be held on Saturday, March 27th, 9 AM at A-B Tech, Ferguson Auditorium.

In order to be a voting delegate at our county convention, you MUST either be present at your precinct meeting or arrive promptly at 9 AM at the County Convention for a brief precinct meeting session.

John Carroll, candidate for NC House District 114, held a press release on Tuesday officially announcing his candidacy for office. His press release is below:

Local business and civic leader John Carroll filed today as a Republican candidate for the North Carolina State House representing the 114th House District in Buncombe County.  After filing, Carroll made this statement.

“In recent years, we’ve had government in Raleigh run by a small group behind closed doors who haven’t listened to people back home.  The result has been an unresponsive state government and corruption in Raleigh we never heard anything about until Federal Grand Jury Indictments were handed down.
Very simply, that has to change and change now.  We need a state representative in this district who cares about the people at home and who will listen to them.  We need a representative here who will stand up for open and honest government and speak out against corruption wherever it occurs in state government.  Of equal importance, we need a representative willing to work hard to bring more jobs to the people here instead of voting for more taxes on the people who still have jobs.
I pledge to be that representative for Buncombe County District 114.”

Carroll began his career as a teacher and then Assistant Principal at Enka High School.  Since that time he has been a successful small business owner and is currently co-owner of a real estate brokerage firm in Asheville.  Carroll’s prior service to the public in Buncombe County includes two terms on the elected Buncombe County Board of Education, Care Partners Foundation Board (formerly Thoms Hospital), YMCA Board of Directors, and President of the Buncombe County Schools Foundation.  He and his wife Beth live in Woodland Hills

We are excited to announce the appointment of Chris Eck as our new 1st Vice Chairman. As 1st Vice Chairman, Chris will be responsible for the organizational structure of our county. That includes everything from recruiting and training our area coordinators and precinct chairmen to coordinating our election campaign strategy. We think you’ll agree that Chris has the right background to make 2010 a successful year for Buncombe Republicans.

Chris is a lifelong Republican.  He is a social and fiscal conservative who is also a staunch supporter of a Constitutional government. Chris is a retired LtCol from the Marine Corps serving both Active Duty and the Active Reserves for 21 years.  He’s been an executive leader at Honeywell, Club Car, Ingersoll-Rand and Thermo-Fisher Scientific.

He currently enjoys working in his church and dabbling in the stock market.  Chris was born in Cherry Point, NC.  He graduated from the University of Missouri and has an MBA from the University of Phoenix.  Chris’s wife of 33 years is Mary Ann who is a Physician Assistant at Carolina Vascular, and they have two wonderful daughters who are now proudly contributing to society on their own.

And with this announcement, we are also sad to lose our previous 1st Vice Chairman, Johnnie Elliott. Due to some truly difficult personal circumstances, Johnnie had to resign his position. Johnnie worked very hard during the time he was on our committee and he will be greatly missed. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
