Chad Nesbitt

Chad Nesbitt

Congratulations to the Buncombe County Republican Party for an upbeat and productive County Convention! Today, Republicans elected a new Chairman, Chad Nesbitt, who has plans for major fundraising and organizational goals.

We also elected a 1st Vice Chairman, Chris Eck, and Secretary, Miah Siemion, both of whom have been serving as interim officers up until the Convention.

Our previous Chairman, Robert Malt, plans to continue his volunteer work with the BCGOP. In particular, he will continue coordinating volunteer training efforts for our voter database tools. Robert is leaving the party with many more precinct chairs, new volunteers in key positions, a full slate of Republican candidates for the 2010 election, and thousands of dollars in the bank account. We sincerely appreciate all of his efforts and are thrilled that he will continue to play an important role in our local party.

2009 BCGOP Convention

2009 BCGOP Convention

Don’t forget that our annual Buncombe County Republican Convention is this Saturday, March 27, at A-B Tech. Arrive at 8:30 AM to register. Proceedings will begin at 9:00 AM. If you did not make it to your Precinct Meeting earlier this month, THAT’S OK! There will be a brief precinct meeting session at the beginning of the convention, so you can still be a delegate.

Only those who have been registered as Republicans in Buncombe County since at least January 31, 2010 can be voting delegates, but we welcome anyone interested in working with our party to attend as a guest.

Details can be found on our 2010 Convention page, including convention agenda, convention rules, map to A-B Tech, and more.

health care bill

health care bill

On Sunday, the White House said “this is the week” Democrats plan to ignore the will of the American people and ram their government takeover of health care through Congress. That means this is the week we have to stop it.

Please call Heath Shuler TODAY at (202) 225-6401 and tell him to vote NO on this health care proposal.

As part of a project called Code Red, the NRCC is recommending we call Democrats in the House who are currently undecided and encourage them to vote NO. They are sending out the names and contact information of 3 House members every day for people to call. The following are 3 members of the House who voted YES the first time around but who are currently undecided. Please call them as well!

Congressman Chris Carney (PA-10): (570) 585-998
Congressman Steve Driehaus (OH-01): (513) 684-2723
Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (AZ-08):  (520) 881-3588

To find out more information, please visit the Code Red website at:

A poll over the weekend in District 11 reveals that 57% of voters oppose Obamacare, including 90% of Republicans, and 60% of unaffiliated voters.  Even a third of Democrats are against it! See the results of the poll here

The Asheville Tea PAC recently held a Congressional Candidates debate with all Republicans candidates in attendance. Shuler, our current Democrat in office, was also invited but did not participate. You can now watch most of the full debate. (There is a large section that is missing during the first half of the debate.)

If you don’t believe anything is any different this year, just read these quotes from our Precinct Chairs and Area Coordinators about how our first set of meetings went on Saturday!

“[Precinct meeting attendees] asked to start having monthly meetings, and they are going to bring a lot more people to the meeting. They said that they did not know what we are about until today, and now that they know, they want to bring more people.”

…………….

“I had 16 attend our precinct meeting where we nominated a Vice Chairman and a Secretary and I picked up three new neighborhood coordinators.  I am quite pleased as last year 2 attended the meeting.”

…………….

“There was also one Democrat who filled out a registration form to change his affiliation to Republican.  He said he always voted our way, but was never registered out way. That changed to day.”

…………….

“I had 3 people call me regarding the precinct meeting that had seen the add in the tribune, and 2 people called that saw it in the fairview town crier….I want to retain the fire I hear in their voices….”

…………….

You’d better believe things are looking bright! The public response to our precinct meetings has been unprecedented in recent years! Our candidates will have an army of volunteers ready and willing to bring Republican principles back to Washington and Raleigh. And if you want to help but don’t have a lot of time, be sure that you will have plenty of others to share the load.

We don’t have the final numbers yet, but we know that we raised over $6,000 this year at our Lincoln/Reagan Dinner!

A huge thank you to Bev and Myron Gottfried for donating the beautiful location, The Farm in Candler, to us so that more of the money donated can go to help elect good Republicans this fall. Their generosity made this event a great success. Please consider them when planning your next event!

Many thanks also to George and Stacey Ibrahim of Ashevilla Wines who made the evening complete by donating their wine!

Special thanks also to our Republican candidates for giving local Republicans an opportunity to hear your message and talk with you about important issues. And thank you to our Lincoln/Reagan Dinner Planning Committee, who spent many many hours over the last few months putting this event together.

And of course, thank you to all those who attended, bid on auction items, and donated items or money. Without you, the event could not happen. We look forward to seeing you again next year and throughout this election season as we focus on the main reason for everything we do: to get good Republicans elected!
