Under NC state law, Buncombe County Commissioners are required to appoint whoever local Democrat Party leaders pick to fill the unexpired term of Democrat Otto DeBruhl, who stepped down as the Buncombe County Register of Deeds on Jan. 31 after serving since 1978.

The Buncombe County Democratic Party chose Drew Reisinger to oversee an office that is responsible for filing and distributing public records such as property deeds, birth certificates, wills, death certificates, and mortgages.

A recent video of Drew Reisinger, being interviewed by local blogger Richard Bernier, proves that Reisinger is not qualified for the job. In the video, Reisinger says, “I’ve never worked a day in the Register of Deeds office”. He then states that his training will consist of only 3 days of education from the NC School of Government. The BCGOP has contacted the NC Secretary of States Office and there is no record of Mr. Reisinger even being a Notary.

The Asheville Citizen Times recently reported that Drew Reisinger was a paid organizer for the Barack Obama campaign in 2008 and was Patsy Keever’s campaign manager last year. Reisinger was also involved in the campaign of Asheville City Councilman Gordon Smith.

Reisinger is unemployed but serves as head of Western North Carolina for Change, a group seeking to increase support for Obama’s agenda.

Republican Party Chairman Chad Nesbitt said, “The leadership of the Buncombe County Democrat Party is out of control. They just appointed an unqualified, agenda-driven progressive to secure the citizens’ most precious documents.” Nesbitt further said, “The Buncombe County Republican Party is seeking legal council to what options may be available to stop this and hold the leadership of the Democrat Party accountable to the citizens of Buncombe County.”
