At the Mountain State Fair, held from September 9 through 18 at the WNC Ag Center, Republican volunteers staffed the Buncombe County Republican Men’s Club information booth for all 106 hours of the fair.   Much information was discussed and debated in the friendly confines of the new Exposition Building.   The volunteers asked passing citizens to vote in a Republican Presidential Straw Poll.   Passers-by were asked for their opinion as to the Republican Presidential candidate that they would prefer to see on the ballot in November 2012.   1101 Western North Carolina citizens participated.   The results of the Straw Poll are attached.   This snapshot in time yielded a big lead for Governor Perry of Texas, followed by Governors Romney and Palin.   Republicans in WNC will be very interested in comparing their preferences with the results of the polls and votes held in other states.

Dear Buncombe County GOP Members:

The North Carolina Democratic Party “NC Forward” bus tour has scheduled a stop in Buncombe County on Thursday, Sept. 22 at the AB Tech Enka Campus. According to their press release:

Democratic state legislators from across North Carolina will launch a 19-stop, weeklong tour of the state to learn more about the impact of the job-killing Republican budget passed in June and press for a renewed focus on investing in public education and creating jobs.

At a time when families and small businesses are struggling and trying to recover from the worst recession in a generation, the NC Democratic Party is advocating taking more money from the pockets of North Carolinians. Like President Obama, they believe that taking more money from a taxpayer is the path to prosperity. In reality, more taxation results in businesses having less money to hire workers, invest in equipment, and grow their operations.

“The folks on this bus tour need to ride the bus back to school and study Economics 101,” said Henry Mitchell, Chairman Buncombe County Republican Party. “More spending and more debt has never created long-term prosperity.”
