“Change” has been the keyword of the Barack Obama campaign but a Republican activist group has unveiled a new billboard campaign, using Obama’s infamous word to their advantage. Starting this week, The Action Club of Buncombe County is introducing a series of billboards throughout the Asheville metro area. One encourages voters to “Change the Culture of Corruption in North Carolina” by voting Republican. Another invites voters who want a woman in the White House to vote Republican this year.
“As voters go to the polls to vote for ‘change,’ I hope they will remember that the Democrats are currently in control of Raleigh and have been for more years than many of us have been alive,” says Kathie Lack, president of The Action Club. “In North Carolina, change will mean voting Republican: The voters needs to know that the high taxes, corruption scandals and gridlock we face in North Carolina aren’t coming from Republicans.”
Democrats have controlled the North Carolina legislature and governor’s office for the past eight years and presently control the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners and the Asheville City Council. The Action Club hopes their new campaign will bring change in Western North Carolina as well as Raleigh.
