MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: Mark Delk Chairman of BCGOP called the meeting to order at 6:35P.M.

VICE CHAIRMAN’S REPORTS

 

Rick Jenkins reported on plans for up-coming events: Lincoln/Reagan Day Dinner – February 23, 2008, Picnic and Fund Raising Event in August at McCormick Field, Plans for a Candidate for Governor Debate in April/2008 ( More info: to come on this)

 

Richard Mills reported on the status of precinct organization. We have a new precinct chairs for Precinct 15 – Diana Cantor, Precinct 7 -  Matt Hebb

 

CLUB REPORTS

 

Action Club: President Kathie Lack reported on the up-coming “Gun Show” where they will be exhibiting. They are continuing their efforts to exhibit at every possible convention and event.

 

Buncombe County Republican Men’s Club: President Bill Porter reported the installation of new members in January as well as their effort to sign up as many candidates as possible to speak for their monthly meetings.

 

Buncombe County Republican Women’s Club: President Beryl Windsor reported on the up-coming North Carolina Federation of Republican Women’s meeting on February 1-2, 2008 in Concord, North Carolina. Beryl Windsor and Ann Mills will be attending. A theater production on March 1, 2008 is planned as a fund raiser. The production called

“Moonlight and Magnolias” will begin at 2:00P.M. at North Carolina Stage Company. Tickets are $23 and can be purchased by calling Beryl at 277-7074. Enjoy Coffee and Dessert at the lovely home of George and Alice Keller following the theater production. The Buncombe County Republican Women have also been concentrating on inviting candidates who are running for office as their guest speakers each month.

 

Blue Ridge Republican Women’s Club: President Dorothea Alderfer reported on the installation of new officers as well as their activities planned as fund raisers this year. They are planning two main events. One of them is the “Hoot and Holler”. More information will be given at a later date. Another event is a “Speaker Event”. They will also give us information on this as it becomes available. They are concentrating on other projects as a club as well as incorporating candidates as speakers into their monthly meetings.

 

Republican Latte Club: Meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at Matt Hebb’s Coffee House.  

 

Chairman’s Report: Mark Delk reported information received from the “League of Women Voter’s. They are soliciting members under the age of “30” to come and relate how they became interested in Politics. (More information to follow.) Mark also brought out the importance of attendance at the up-coming “Republican County Convention”

on March 1, 2008.

 

Old Business: Discussion concerning changing Lincoln/Reagan Day Dinner to Reagan Day Dinner.

 

New Business:

 

Dr. Joe Dunn introduced himself as the chairman of the Search Committee for Buncombe County Republican Candidates. They are recruiting candidates for Republican County Chairman.

 

Robin Ramsey reported on plans for the Lincoln/Reagan Day Dinner on February 23, 2008. Invitations will be sent out and there will be a Silent Auction. She encouraged everyone to attend.

 

Tim Johnson reported on plans for a Eleventh District Candidates Debate to take place

at YMI Cultural Center. More information on this will be given at a later date.

 

Stephen Duncan reported on our Eleventh District Convention taking place on April 26, 2008. He impressed upon us the importance of attendance. Election of delegates will take place at this time.

 

Betty Budd reported on the up-coming Candidate School being offered to all Republicans at no charge on February 23, 2008 at AB Tech. The class runs from 9:00A.M- 4:00P.M.. This is a great opportunity to learn techniques on running more efficient campaigns and how to effectively use volunteers. This class is especially helpful for precinct chairmen.

 

Chad Nesbitt reported on an up-coming rally “Fight Public Corruption” to be held at 4:00P.M. in front of the Federal Building in Asheville. A “Golf Tournament” is planned for April 12, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Resort. This will be a fund raiser for the Republican Party. (More information will be given at a later date)

 

Ken Selden reported on a survey he had done. People between the ages of 72-80 were the focus point of this survey. If you would like to know details concerning this survey please call Ken.

 

Eric Gorny reported that he will give his funds he had left from his campaign to Paul Pardu – Candidate for the 115 District.

 

OPEN COMMENTS  

 

Many positive comments were given by several people including Ralph Eubanks, Bill Lack, Don Yelton and Dr. Joe Dunn on the importance of getting along and how we need to support each other whether we agree with everything said or not. Examples were given on organizations we are involved with and how working together brought about a change. One example was “Jessica’s Law”

 

Chairman Mark Delk challenged each of us with an important Job. We are to get to know our fellow Republicans. Get to know their concerns and feelings about the Republican Party. Make Friends and Band Together!
