Secretary Keller read a list of those who were already participating in positions of leadership at the upcoming convention and then asked for volunteers to fill the remaining slots.   All identified slots were filled.

Treasurer Osada handed out the Treasurer’s report.   It showed significant increases in available funds, a result of the LRDD.   Secretary Keller, who picks up the BCGOP mail and to whom notices of credit card use are e-mailed, reported that the LRDD gross is now just a little more than $12K, with only the food and clean-up costs yet to be subtracted.

Vice Chair Rick Jenkins reported that Roland Linder was delighted with his reception at the LRDD and with the gift of M&M’s.

Robin Ramsey thanked all for their support of LRDD.

Betty Budd reported that there were about 35 at the Civitas training.  There was a motion to reimburse Betty for the coffee and pastries served at the training, and the motion passed.

Tim Johnson reported on the YMI Congressional Candidate debate.   He thanked Diana Kantor for all her hard work to make the debate happen.  He announced that there would be a Republican Gubernatorial Candidate debate at the YMI on May 1.   There was a motion to reimburse Tim for half of the cost of renting the YMI for the evening.   The motion passed.

Vice Chair Rich Mills announced that Vicki Wynn is being courted to be precinct chair in 31.1, Biltmore Forest.   Chairman Delk would like for there to be a committee for precinct development, to help grow up new precinct chairs and to help existing chairs.  Mills made a motion to establish such a committee.   Motion passed.   Mills is to appoint the committee.

Kathy Rhodarmer reported on the several activities by the ACTION Club.

Bill Lack reported that Mike Fryar will speak at the next Republican Men’s Club meeting.

Beryl Windsor, President of the Buncombe County Republican Women’s Club reported on the NCFRW convention that she and Ann Mills attended.   She reported that 31 tickets remain for the fund-raising play on Sunday, May 2.

Dorothea Alderfer reported on the very successful handing of the LRDD Reception and the Silent Auction by the Blue Ridge Republican Women’s Club.   Steve Oxner, from the Sheriff’s Department, will speak on self protection, at the next club meeting on March 6.

Bill Lack reported on a growing coalition for Jessica’s Law in WNC.   There will be a Jessica’s Law rally on May 3 in the Ferguson Auditorium of the Laurel Building at AB-Tech.  Democrat Martin Nesbitt is holding up the bill in the NC Senate.

Latte’ Republicans will meet this Thursday, February 28, at 5:30 p.m. at Caffiend.

Tim Johnson told of attending the CPAC meeting in Washington.   National Black Republican Association (NBRA) Frances Rice has appointed Tim as National Coordinator of NBRA State Delegates.

Secretary Keller moved to consider modifications to the BCGOP Structure regarding Contested Republican Primaries and Party Disloyalty.  Motion to consider passed.

Eric Gorny made a motion to remove completely the first of the two paragraphs under Contested Republican Primaries.   After discussion the motion passed, not unanimously.

Don Yelton made a motion to strike the reference to privately held lists from the second paragraph.   Chuck Durand moved a re-wording of the paragraph that made the reference to privately held lists unnecessary.   Chuck’s motion passed.   Don’s motion was then moot and was defeated.

Diana Kantor moved to replace “Democrat” with “non-Republican” in Article X, Party Disloyalty, pointing out that there are other non-Republican parties than Democrat, and we should not be supporting any of them.  Motion passed unanimously.

Chairman Delk was applauded for his work as Chair since June.   His remarks included the comment that he was proud to be a Republican.

Bill Lack made a motion to attempt to persuade Elizabeth Daniels to run for Register of Deeds in Buncombe County and for the BCGOP to pay her filing fee.   After some discussion, George Keller moved to strike the offer of paying the filing fee, and that motion passed.   The modified Lack motion passed.   Bill will talk with Elizabeth.

Chairman Delk spoke on the importance of fielding a candidate for every office.

Tim Johnson urged us all to begin thinking of the candidates needed in 2009 to run for Asheville City Council.

It was remarked that Mark Crawford had expressed an interest in running for Superintendent of Public Instruction but was dissuaded by the “higher-ups” at the NCGOP, for they “didn’t want a primary.”  It was suggested that he might be persuaded to run for the NC Senate against Nesbitt.

Beryl Windsor again appealed to us to buy tickets to the play on Sunday.

Meeting adjourned at about 8:30 p.m.
