The Executive Committee of the Buncombe County Republican Party met on January 22, 2007 at Ryan’s restaurant, Patton Avenue Asheville, NC. The meeting was called to order at 6:34 pm by George Keller, Chair of the BCGOP.

 

Don Yelton was called upon, and gave the blessing. George Keller lead the Pledge to the Flag and Chuck Durand conducted the roll call with nineteen  members attending.

 

It was noted that the minutes from the previous Central Committee meeting are available on line.

 

A written report from the Treasurer was summarized and it was noted that the report is posted on the BCGOP web site.

 

George Keller exercised the BCGOP rules that allow the Chair to appoint Precinct Chairs and Area Coordinators in the absence of an Executive Committee quorum to appoint: Danny Roberts (298-9953), Precinct 61.1 Chair;  Betty Roberts (298-9953), Precinct 62.1 Chair; Nancy Nesbitt (683-0221), Precinct 68.1 Chair; and Chad Nesbitt (683-0221), Asheville North-Central Area Coordinator (Precincts 1,2 ,3, and 17). Precinct Chairs and Area Coordinators are members of the BCGOP Executive Committee.

 

George Keller reported on the progress made on the BCGOP convention project. A/B Tech is ready to house the convention. The draft rules for the 2007 BCGOP convention are available for comment on the BCGOP web site. Comments on the rules draft, proposed resolutions, and proposed awards, should be provided to George Keller as soon as possible. The nominations Committee comprised of Maureen Flagg-Weber, Ralph Eubanks, Eric Gorny, Bill Lack, and Beki Taylor plan their next meeting for January 25 at 7:00 PM. The Credentials Committee made up of Bev Kirkland, Beki Taylor, and Mary Ann Durand plan to receive the voter rolls lists from the BCBOE next week and plan to meet with George Keller to establish procedures the following week.

 

Mike Harrison reported on the progress made on the BCGOP Lincoln/Reagan Day Dinner Project. Work is completed on the facility, food, cash bar, dinner entertainment, guest speaker, VIP ushers, receptionists, and master of ceremonies. Work is very nearly completed and on time on stage, podium, and microphones; VIP guests; and decorations. Work is in progress and on time on reception complimentary refreshments, invitations/RSVPs, printed programs, and the Silent Auction. Work is staffed and will start as appropriate on invitation follow up calls, name tags and parking attendants. Any suggestions were called for and can be directed to Mike. Chad Nesbitt volunteered to provide wine and beer as the reception complimentary refreshments. Executive Committee members were called upon to support the LRDD in any way possible to assure that all 254 seats are filled. Several members expressed plans to purchase an eight seat  table at the dinner.

 

Representative Elect Charles Thomas has an announced that he is planning to hold a breakfast meeting, in Raleigh, on Wednesday January 24, 2007. Further information is provided on Committeetoelectcharlesthomas.Com.

Bill Porter reported the BCRMC speaker for next month is planned to be the City of Asheville Police Chief. Carl Mumpower is the alternative speaker. The NC Federation of Men’s Clubs will meet on the net.

 

Loree’ Pettit reported that the BCRWC have invited the presently declared candidates for BCGOP Chair to speak at the next meeting on February 7.

 

Frances Gosgrove reported the Blue Ridge RWC is working on items for the LRDD silent auction. All members were solicited to help bring items forward for this important GOP fundraiser.

 

Kathie Lack reported that the presently declared candidates for BCGOP Chair spoke to the

Action Club at the January 18 meeting. Executive Committee members all warmly welcomed Kathie to a second term as she had been reelected at the January meeting.

 

Aaron Pettit reported that the GOP Kids’ Club has selected their 2007 project to be to provide games to hospitalized children. Executive Committee members were urged to support this project. Mike Harrison volunteered to provide t-shirts to Kids’ Club members.

 

Latte’ Republicans will meet 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Powerhouse Perks in Black Mountain. The address is 111 Black Mountain Ave.

 

Ralph Eubanks suggested that the BCGOP be directly involved in attempting to retry Andrew Reed. Action was discussed and tabled for the next meeting.

 

The BCGOP January Executive Committee Meeting was concluded at 7:42 pm.
