·         We had an inquiry from the FEC about some donations and we are responding.  It’s a slow process, entirely by snail-mail.

Chairman’s Report by Mike Harrison

·         Expressed Appreciation to past officers

·         There are job descriptions for precinct chairs and area coordinators on the web.

·         Discussed party activity since Convention

·         Distributed and collected written audience survey

·         He has communicated with Rep. Charles Thomas and NCGOP regarding legislative issues of local concern.

·         Mike’s Goals and Expectations

o        Time to get together and get behind the now-elected leadership.

o        The Chair speaks for the BCGOP, not any other individual

o        Bring recommended solution with each criticism.

o        Each of us should consider his/her responsibility as role models.

Old and New Business got mixed together:

·         Nancy Nesbitt identified a good candidate for the Asheville School Board.   George will distribute information to our master mailing list.

·         Those who wish to be on a master mailing list, for news “weekly,” should identify themselves. [Note: about 275 have already done so, but the mailings have been sporadic, not “weekly.”]

·         There were several quick discussions about issues:

o        Bill Reynolds about how we need to attend school board meetings.

o        Deb Yelton about our support or non-support of Libertarians.

o        Zora Hays regarding the “way it was” in the BCGOP of the past.

o        Mark Delk regarding how important it is to get good candidates.

o        Chad Nesbitt regarding Libertarian/Republican connections.

o        Bill Lack regarding the possibility of a luncheon on May 4 with Dick Armey in Asheville.

o        Chad Nesbitt regarding our opposition to zoning in the County.

Chairman Mike Harrison reminded us to keep focused on the big picture, our major job, of getting Republicans elected to office.

There was a motion from Don Yelton which passed, to ask our Representatives in the NC Legislature not to support an introduced bill which would inhibit visitation at the Legislature by constituents.   After the meeting, investigation by the Secretary discovered that the reference is to a proposed Joint Rules Committee bill to limit gatherings on the grounds around the Legislative building in Raleigh.   On Tuesday, 27 March 2007, the Secretary asked both Rep Thomas and Senator Apodaca not to support this rule change.
